The Facial Nerve is considered Cranial Nerve pair VII (#7). Remember, there are twelve pairs of cranial nerves (thus, 24 total).

The Facial Nerve has motor (movement) components that are responsible for movements of the face (e.g., smiling, pursing lips, lifting eyebrows, et cetera).
Fact #3
When a facial nerve is malfunctioning (functioning incorrectly in terms of motor/movement), it is often referred to as "nerve palsy".
“Palsy” means “paralysis.”
Fact #4
What are the signs and / or symptoms of facial nerve palsy?*
- Facial muscle weakness in parts of or all of one side of one's face.
- Facial muscle spasms.
- Drooping eyebrow(s) and / or eyelid(s).
- Trouble closing your eye(s) and / or blinking.
- Dry eye(s) due to loss of tear production.
- Decreased sound tolerance (hyperacusis) in ear (s).
- Lopsided smile or facial appearance.
- Unclear speech and / or slurred speech.
- Difficulty eating and / or drinking.
- Diminished taste and / or dry mouth.
- Differently swallowing.
